Detailed Textbook-Aligned Concepts

French Revolution and nation

The Revolution introduced ideas of citizenship, equality before law and collective national identity. Administrative and legal changes helped create a sense of a common national territory.

Liberalism and conservatism

Liberal nationalism supported constitutional government, civil liberties and economic freedoms, while conservative forces often sought to preserve established political and social arrangements.

Revolutionary movements

The 1830 and 1848 revolutions challenged old political structures. Nationalist and liberal aspirations were often linked with demands for constitutional rule.

Unification of Italy

Mazzini promoted a united republican Italy; Cavour used diplomacy and war; Garibaldi and his forces contributed to territorial unification. The process ultimately produced a unified Italian state.
